Who this is for

You already know you need a carbon monoxide alarm (see the linked Problem page for why CO detection matters) and are deciding between specific models. The two currently-available options below cover the same core job -- standalone CO detection -- with different power sources and feature sets.

How the current picks differ

Both the Kidde C3010 and the Kidde KN-COP-DP-10YH are standalone CO alarms with a 10-year sealed/backup battery, but they are not the same purchase decision:

• Kidde C3010 runs entirely on its own sealed 10-year battery -- nothing to plug in, no cord to route, no display. Simple, and it works through a power outage by design, not as a backup mode.
• Kidde KN-COP-DP-10YH is an AC plug-in unit with a sealed 10-year lithium battery as backup power, a digital display that shows the live CO reading in PPM, and a visual escape/night light intended for hearing-impaired or deaf users. It needs an outlet at the right height, but gives you a running number instead of just a pass/fail alarm state.

Neither is a "smart" or app-connected device. Pick the C3010 if you want a set-and-forget battery unit with no outlet dependency; pick the KN-COP-DP-10YH if a live PPM readout or the visual-alert feature matters to you and you have a suitable outlet.

What we left out, and why

A third product exists in this dataset for this category: the Google Nest Protect (2nd Gen, Battery), a smoke + carbon monoxide combination alarm. It is not included as a current pick here. Google announced in March 2025 that it discontinued Nest Protect manufacturing and named a First Alert product as the successor line. Existing retail inventory may still be purchasable, but recommending a manufacturer-discontinued device as a current choice would be misleading -- so it is deliberately excluded from the active picks above rather than presented as a normal recommendation.

Limitations

• Neither current pick is a smoke + CO combination alarm. If you specifically want combined smoke and CO detection in one device, that is a different product type this collection does not currently cover with an active recommendation.
• Certification claims (UL 2034) come from manufacturer or manufacturer-adjacent materials, not always the same document: the C3010's own manufacturer page states "UL Listed" without naming the standard, and the KN-COP-DP-10YH's UL 2034 figure was found via third-party manual sources rather than Kidde's own product page text.
