Who publishes this site
Silent Home Hazards is edited by the Silent Home Hazards Editorial Team. This site does not currently attach individual bylines, credentials, or professional titles to its content -- every piece of published research and every editorial judgment call is treated as a team responsibility, not an individual's, and no expert title or qualification is claimed on anyone's behalf.
Why this site exists
Independent guides to the household hazards you cannot see, hear, or smell. Detection and prevention products for carbon monoxide, radon, combustible gas, and water leaks are evaluated against publicly available product and safety information, structured as a record rather than a sales pitch.
Verification, not testing
This site does not operate a testing lab and does not install, alarm, or measure any product firsthand. What it does is check a manufacturer's own published claim against a regulatory or standards source when that source is publicly checkable, and disclose plainly when that check hasn't been done. Sourcing discipline
Product specifications and claims are drawn from a manufacturer's own published documentation and, where a source explicitly allows it, from publicly checkable regulatory or standards sources such as the EPA. Amazon listing text, customer review text, and star ratings are never used as a source for a safety claim or a product specification.
Handling uncertainty
When a claim can't be confirmed against its original source, it is disclosed as unconfirmed rather than presented as settled fact -- this is the reasoning behind the status badges that appear throughout the site. Where a product or a whole product line has been excluded from a recommendation (for example, because it appears discontinued, or its exact model identity couldn't be confirmed), that exclusion and the reason for it are stated on the page, not silently omitted.
How this site earns money
Silent Home Hazards participates in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program and earns a commission on qualifying purchases made through links marked "(paid link)". That relationship does not change which products are covered or what a review concludes -- products are not added, removed, or rated differently because of the commission they may generate.
