Verification

This site's niche involves genuine safety-certification claims -- UL/ANSI listings, AARST/NRPP radon-lab accreditation, EPA guidance. Some of those claims are backed by a real, checkable standard; others are only the manufacturer's own rating; and in every case, we're explicit about which is which. We distinguish what we know from what we have not confirmed -- a claim we haven't independently checked is disclosed as unconfirmed, never presented as settled fact.

Status vocabulary

Every safety claim this site publishes carries one of these statuses:

Verified

Certification confirmed against a regulatory or standards source

This is the highest-confidence status on this site: we checked the claim ourselves against the actual regulatory or standards source, not just the manufacturer's word for it.

Mfr-rated

Manufacturer-rated; not independently confirmed

The manufacturer states this rating. We have not independently confirmed it against a testing lab or regulatory body -- we show it as the manufacturer's own claim, not our own finding.

Pending verification

A safety claim applies to this product; not yet checked

A real certification or safety claim applies to this product, but confirming it against the original regulatory or standards source takes real research. Until that work is done, the claim is shown as unconfirmed, not assumed true.

Refuted

Checked against this site’s verification rules; the claim was not supported

We checked this specific claim against the relevant standard or public registry and found it was not supported -- a real finding, not just an unresolved question.

N/A

No certification or safety claim applies to this product

No safety-certification standard governs this category of product at all (for example, there is no UL-style standard for consumer water-leak sensors), so there is no claim here for us to confirm or refute.

What this site does not claim

This site does not operate as a certification body and does not independently test products in a lab. What we do is check a manufacturer's claim against the actual regulatory or standards source when that source is publicly checkable, and disclose plainly when we haven't -- or can't -- do that. A product without a "verified" or "manufacturer-rated" status is never presented as carrying a confirmed safety claim.
